Don’t Let the End of Your Marriage Be the End of Your Life.

You are not alone. The Nicholas Gibbons Alliance seeks to aid divorced persons by providing them with access to the support and services they need.

What We Do

The Nicholas Gibbons Alliance is dedicated to helping those who are struggling with divorce. Multiple studies over recent years have shown that divorced and separated persons were over twice as likely to commit suicide as married persons*. The effect is especially pronounced among men. Our goal is to reduce the rate of suicide by provide access to the services and support that they need. This includes legal services, mental health services, support groups, activities, housing, employment and much more.

Our Story

Nicholas Gibbons, who is the namesake of the organization, is an example of a man who lost his life due to suicide after a divorce. Mr. Gibbons was a successful dentist until he suffered a crippling neurological injury. Although he did regain his ability to walk, he developed a tremor in his hands that made him unable to continue his dentistry practice. His wife filed for divorce after his injury and kicked him out of their house. Without an income, Mr. Gibbons lived with friends and relatives for a time. And without competent legal counsel in the divorce, due to his lack of income to pay for such representation, Mr. Gibbons lost custody of his children and was ordered to pay alimony and child support based on his income prior to his injury. Following the loss of his job, his wife, his children, his home, and his dignity, Mr. Gibbons sought assistance from church and community organizations. But he did not know where to find that assistance, and his individual efforts to get help from such organizations were unsuccessful. Mr. Gibbons felt without hope. He ended his own life in late 2021.
